What is BESS?

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a system that allows us to store electrical energy, whether generated or drawn into batteries to be used at a later time. It is used with renewable energy systems, such as PV or wind energy, to balance supply and demand from the electrical grid, by storing the excess generated energy, and dispatching it at a later time. It can come in a variety of types based on the system’s usage, conditions surrounding it, and the size of the BESS.

Why use BESS?

BESS allow the user more control over their renewable energy system, as any excess generated electricity is stored within the system, and allows the user to use it at a later date. It also allows the user independence from the electrical grid, and total control of their electricity usage via the BESS, with the user not having to rely on the electrical grid for power even at times where there is no generation from their renewable energy system. BESS also allow easy access to constant electricity to remote areas that do not have access to the electrical grid.

It can also help keep the electrical grid in good working conditions, by reducing the load that is demanded from the grid, and also not have any generated electricity be put into the grid from a renewable system, which helps keep the electrical grid more resilient and reliable.

Kawar Energy is a pioneer in the field of renewable energy solutions for its clients, by being one of the first companies in the Middle East to build a renewable energy system, and by finding the most suitable solution for the clients’ use and demand while using a BESS with their system.
