What is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy, also known as Photovoltaic (PV) Energy, is the use of the sunlight to generate electricity with the use of solar panels that are made from semiconductor materials, such as silicon. A solar panel is made up of multiple PV cells, which when they are hit with direct sunlight release electrons from the semiconductor materials making up the cell, thus creating an electric current that supplies electric power. Multiple panels are connected together to make an array that generates large amounts of electricity, and which we can scale up depending on the application. The generated electricity is in a DC form, which then requires an inverter that converts it into useful AC electricity.

Why use Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is a renewable energy source and extremely abundant, especially in the MENA region. It is a clean and sustainable energy source that does not emit any harmful greenhouse gases or pollutes air, which helps preserve the environment and mitigates the effects of climate change, by shifting the generation of electricity from fossil fuels and other conventional energy sources towards green, clean, and sustainable solar energy. Solar Energy is also a cost-effective energy source, as the price of Solar Energy projects is declining world-wide with the improvement of its technology, and is becoming more and more competitive with conventional energy sources.

This energy source also provides the user with energy independence, with the user no longer only drawing-in electricity from the grid, but rather can generate electricity as well, which can be done on-site or be wheeled towards the user if off-site, with the ability to install Solar Panels in a wide range of locations, from building tops of all types, car parks, empty land, and other spaces. This reduces the cost of electricity on the users significantly, as the user now generates for themselves, while also supplying the grid with any excess electricity generated. Solar Energy is also a great energy source to areas that are remote and do not have access to an electrical grid, or users who wish to not be connected to the electrical grid anymore, as it allows them to generate their own electricity on-site with constant electricity supply when integrated with a battery electricity storage system. Solar Energy is also very flexible in its design, as it can deployed for wide range of applications at various scales, from small-scale residential uses to mega-scale utility solar farms, with an ease of expansion on these projects if energy demand rises.
